For me, photographing births isn’t just about documenting a moment in time, it’s about honouring the strength, love, and connection that fills the room as a new life begins.
From Induction to Sunrise
The journey began with an afternoon induction. There was this mix of nerves and excitement as they settled in, knowing they’d be meeting their baby soon.
As the evening rolled into night, contractions built, the room grew quieter, and everything slowed into that gentle rhythm that comes with labour — steady breaths, whispered encouragement, and moments of rest in between.
By the early morning, after a long night, it was finally time.
Dad’s Hands, Baby’s First Breath
One of the most unforgettable moments was watching Dad help bring his baby into the world. With the guidance of the midwives, he reached forward and lifted his little one up onto Mum’s chest. The look on their faces said everything — pure love, relief, and amazement all at once.
Strength After Birth
After delivery, Mum needed a little extra care and some stitches — something many mothers experience. While she was looked after by the midwives and doctors Dad soaked in that first magical hour of cuddles, skin-to-skin with their baby. It was beautiful to see the balance of strength and tenderness in those early moments.
Once Mum was settled, the three of them curled up together — soft whispers, tiny fingers holding tightly, and all that love filling the room.
