Start with Colour

It Sets the Tone

The easiest way to plan your outfits is to start with a colour palette. I always suggest choosing 2–3 tones that complement each other and work with your chosen location.

Soft neutrals and earthy tones photograph beautifully

Think creams, oatmeal, olive green, rust, dusty pink, soft blue, warm greys, or caramel. These tones give your photos a soft, natural feel without pulling focus from what really matters—you.

Let one person wear a subtle print:  Florals, small checks, or stripes are great—but keep it soft and minimal. From there, pull your colours from that pattern for the rest of the family.

Let's try  avoid:

• Black: it can feel heavy and loses detail in natural light.

• Bright neons: these reflect unnatural tones onto your skin and surroundings.

• Big logos or character prints: they can distract from your faces and date your photos quickly.

Textures & Movement Make Photos Come Alive
Textures & Movement Make Photos Come Alive

Loose knits, linen dresses, flowy dresses and skirts, or relaxed-fit shirts are perfect. You’ll be sitting on picnic rugs, chasing your kids, and cuddling—so your outfits need to let you move naturally.

Layers (like cardis, jackets, and scarves) are a great way to add texture and warmth—and you can always take them off for a few photos to mix up your look.

Textures & Movement Make Photos Come Alive

You don’t need big patterns to add interest—textures and soft fabrics do this effortlessly.

• Linen, knitwear, lace, and chiffon all photograph beautifully.

• Flowy skirts and dresses catch the breeze and add natural movement.

• A mix of textures between family members gives your photos depth and a cozy, layered feel.

And, try make sure you little ones are comfortable. If your child is wearing scratchy fabric, or you’re squeezing into something that doesn’t feel right, it’s going to show. Comfort always makes for better, more relaxed photos.

In-Home & Newborn Sessions

Keep It Cozy

At-home lifestyle sessions are all about relaxed, natural moments in your own space.

For newborn shoots or cozy family sessions, go for:

• Neutral tones and soft fabrics (think knit rompers, comfy onesies, or a flowy dress).

• Textured blankets, swaddles, or even a well-loved quilt.

• No need for shoes—bare feet are perfect at home.

Your house doesn’t have to be spotless, just a quick tidy-up in the areas we’ll be shooting (main bedroom, nursery, and living room) is plenty. I’ll help find the best light and angles so your home looks its best while still feeling like you.

Shoes, Accessories & Simple Props

Small details for big impacts

What About Shoes?

Simple shoes complete the look without drawing too much attention.  Think neutral ankle boots, plain sandals, or clean white sneakers. Barefoot works beautifully at home or in the studio for a relaxed vibe. Bright runners or colourful Crocs? Probably leave those at home unless they’re totally your vibe.

Accessories & Simple Props

Accessories can elevate your outfit without making it feel too “done.”  Simple earrings, a wide-brimmed hat, or a textured scarf all work beautifully. Bring a neutral toy, soft blanket, flowers, or a favourite book for your kids if you want to add a personal touch.

Keep props natural and minimal so they don’t overpower your story.

Maternity

Because growing a tiny human is worth dressing up for

Your bump is the star of the show, so let’s make sure you feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident. Whether you’re all about flowy dresses or something more casual, there’s no one “right” look—just what feels like you.

A Few Ideas to Get You Started:

Maxi Dresses & Gowns – You can’t go wrong with a flowy, floor-length dress. They catch the light and breeze so beautifully and create that soft, effortless vibe.

Fitted Styles Work Too! – A body-hugging dress can show off your gorgeous bump in the most flattering way. Simple, elegant, and striking.

Relaxed & Chic – Prefer something casual? A pair of maternity jeans with a crop top, knit, or even holding fresh flowers creates a really natural, understated look that still feels special.

Hairpieces & Flowers – If you want to add a little something extra, a simple headband, flower crown, or fresh blooms can complete your outfit beautifully.
